It might be helpful to listen to some local "nets" on area repeaters so you feel comfortable with participating in them.
Attached is a document where you can start listening to one of our local repeaters where weekly nets occur.
Once we have some licensed club members here at school, we could even schedule a weekly net four our club, and it doesn't have to be just a roster or roll call. We could have trivia, Q&A, etc.
